X-75 Hurricane Review

There are certain motorcycles that capture your imagination as a youngster, and that grasp is never relinquished. For me, the Triumph X-75 Hurricane is such a bike. Ever since I first spied it in the motorcycle publications of the early 1970s, when it was still being presented as a Vetter BSA prototype, I have been captivated by its sleek seat/tank unit, graceful striping, and, most of all, the bouquet of three megaphone-style mufflers on its right side.

Motorcycle Evoluzione

Nearly two-and-a-half years since I tested the very first Ducati Hypermotard motorcycle at Mores in Sardinia, I’m at it again. I clearly remember that I wished for a little more horsepower down the short 550-yard straight and that’s exactly what Ducati has delivered. The new 2010 Ducati Hypermotard 1100 EVO and EVO SP feature a 95 horsepower version and with the replacement single can race exhaust produces nearly 100 horsepower.

San Francisco SX

Once again, the world of Supercross racing is proving just how unpredictable it can be. It was reported late last night that James Stewart underwent surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand that x-rays following his heat race crash at the Phoenix round, January 16, evidently missed. As a result, Stewart will miss tonight’s San Francisco round.

Stewart is Out

UltimateMotorCycling.com has just finished a call with James Stewart’s team and has confirmed, unfortunately, that Stewart was actually injured worse than had been originally diagnosed after two accidents that occurred during round 2 of the 2010 Supercross season in Phoenix. What the original x-rays missed, an MRI scan revealed yesterday: Stewart has a broken bone in his hand and immediate surgery was recommended.

Post WW2 History

In the years following World War II, Harley-Davidson recognized the demand that lay ahead for economical and efficient motorcycles. In late 1947, production of civilian Big Twins had already swung back into gear, but most surprising for the 1948 model year was the new model S motorcycle. The 125 model S motorcycle arrived at dealerships with an MSRP of $325, and if the customer could swing the extra $7.50, their new ride came with chrome rims. The single cylinder engine produced about three brake horsepower (bhp), which got the 200 lb.

Ducati 1100 EVO & EVO SP

The 2010 Ducati Hypermotard 1100 EVO and EVO SP are both about 15 pounds lighter and 5 horses more powerful than last year’s Ducati Hypermotard 1100. As insiders at the Ducati 796 launch in Bologna told me, the Hypermotards are now one big happy family consisting of three members.

Kevlar Motorcycle Jeans

When Tom Pitton jammed on his brakes, he knew there were only two possibilities. He could either strike a fellow biker broadside with his motorcycle or lay the bike down and skid across the pavement.

Smashing into the other rider wasn’t an option, so Tom threw himself and his motorcycle down onto the roadway at 45 miles per hour. It was a terrifying moment for the 68-year-old, who was on a winter joy ride in Palm Springs, California.

Hyperleggera Design

This Ducati inspired design project was born from a Claudio Dominicali quote: "We working on a new superlight project; it will be a twin". This phrase gave the artist at sak_art design the impulse to create a new Ducati "Superlight" that has come to be known as the Ducati "Hyperleggera".

Storz Performance XR1200

UltimateMotorCycling.com has gotten an exclusive first look at the 2010 Storz Performance Harley-Davidson Sportster XR1200. As you may remember when Harley-Davidson decided to build its own XR1200, it had to purchase the name from Storz Performance. Storz developed the name, as it had been building its own custom XR1200s from stock Sportsters for years.
